We offer professional solid state and tube audio service, repair, restoration and modification for both current and vintage tube amplifiers, preamps, keyboards, speaker cabinets, mixers, power amplifiers, effects units, stage effects, lighting, speakers, microphone, CD and karaoke players and other electronic musical instrument equipment.

Older amplifiers which have not been serviced for many years or have been inexpensively or incorrectly repaired might still work but perform far below their sonic potential.   Many new amplifiers have flaws due to “cost-efficient”  (re: lower quality) components.    In such cases attention to some critical details would bring the best out of the amp:

  • Individually selected tubes which will support the character of an amp and the desired tonal expectation

  • Proper adjustment of power tube bias with respect to the musical style

  • Replacement of lower quality or simply inappropriate components

  • Targeted adaptation of the circuit to improve tonal quality, dynamics, response, control, reliability as well as the reduction of noise or to produce the desired tone

  • Speaker recommendation to match and support the style and tone of the amplifier

Upgrading and Modification
This is much more than the above described approaches to achieve real tone.
Some examples ... by no means complete:

  • Installation of an effects loop

  • Installation of master volume circuitry

  • Boost functions and switching functions with push-pull pots or footswitch remote control

  • Conversion for operation with alternative tube types like 5881 <> EL34 <> KT66 <> 6550 <> KT88

Restoration + De-modding
Many classic tube amplifiers have been poorly serviced over the decades or horribly modified. To restore these amps to the original working condition and bring back the original classic tone is the aim of de-modding and restoration services.

We are a long-term member in good standing of PASTEG (Pro-Audio Service Technicians and Engineers Group), NESDA (National Electronic Service Dealers Association), ISCET (International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians),  and MITA (Musical Instrument Technicians Association).   These training, support and certifying organizations ensure that their members provide top-notch reliable service in an honest and ethical manner for a reasonable price.

At Uncle Sam's Jamms, we specialize in maintaining all makes and models of tube guitar amplifiers.   Tube amps remain the backbone of the guitarist's arsenal of equipment, and proper care is essential to retaining the best possible tone.   We only use the finest quality tubes, from the reputable companies shown to the right.   We properly bias the tubes using the Bias King test gear, developed by our good friend and associate Steve Wilson of Ambient Sound.

FAQ's about Uncle Sam's Jamms' Service

What should I do to get my product serviced?
Just bring your unit to the Service Entrance ... down the steps, rear of Uncle Sam's Jamms.    If you need help carrying in your product, we'll be glad to help.

Do I need an appointment to bring in my unit?
No, you may drop off your item any time during our normal business hours - Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm.

How much does it cost?
We will need to disassemble and diagnose your product in order to determine what's wrong and how much it will cost to fix it.    Our diagnostic charge covers this procedure, and as soon as your item is diagnosed, we will give you a call with complete information on what is wrong and  the cost estimate for repair.    For most equipment (guitar or bass amps, speaker cabinets, DJ equipment, processors, wireless units, etc) the diagnostic charge is $45.     For analog stomp boxes, the diagnostic is only $25.   Some  digital-based equipment, power amplifiers, powered mixers, synthesizers, etc have a slightly higher diagnostic charge.   The diagnostic fee IS deducted from the final repair cost when the unit is repaired - so it is not an additional charge ... you can consider it a down payment on the repair bill.

How long does it take?
We have three technicians on our staff, and their only job is to service your products.    We stay busy with a constant workload, but in most cases we can start on your repair diagnosis within a few days of receipt.   We computer time-stamp each product as it enters our facility, and work on all repairs in the order in which they arrive.  If you have an emergency situation and need fast service, we will be glad to work with you to service your unit in an expedited fashion.    Additional fees may be applicable for expedited service.

What about warranty service?
We currently offer factory warranty service for the following brands:    Line 6, Gallien-Krueger, Marshall, Orange, Peavey, Randall, and Eden.   If you have a product from one of these companies and it is covered by the factory warranty, please bring a copy of your sales receipt - the receipt is necessary before we can begin repair.  Warranty repairs are carried out under the terms of the manufacturer's warranty.  Please note that MOST companies only cover vacuum tubes and speakers for 90 days.

What is the warranty on your work?
Shop warranty covers the specific repair completed, not the complete product.  The warranty covers parts and labor on the specific repair, and is from 90 days of the completion date of the repair.

For your convenience, you may pull your vehicle to the rear of the building and bring your equipment to be repaired directly to our new service entrance - just down the stairs.
